Community Resiliency

Long-Term Recovery

Supporting communities through recovery, every step of the way.

Long after the urgency fades, United Way is still at work. Since we’re already part of the community, we don’t have to start from scratch. Our recovery efforts build on existing relationships with schools, clinics, food banks, and other local organizations that supported our communities before a natural or man-made disaster.

We help families rebuild homes and reconnect to the services they need to thrive. We strengthen mental health support, creating space for children and caregivers to heal. We also work with local partners to repair critical infrastructure and strengthen the local networks that people rely on every day.

As recovery unfolds, we help communities prepare for what lies ahead. By working locally and listening closely, we help build systems that are resilient to future crises.

United Way leads on long-term disaster recovery

Asheville Recovers After Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina with 24+ inches of rain and record floods. United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County mobilized volunteers immediately. That response sparked long-term recovery. Today, they’re rebuilding together.
