The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides low- and moderate-income individuals and families with free, reliable assistance in filing federal tax returns. In 2019, thousands of VITA volunteers prepared millions of tax returns nationwide resulting in more than $1.8 billion returning to local communities. These dollars are spent to cover child expenses, pay bills, as well as to save for the future.
In June, the Taxpayer First Act made VITA a permanent program and ensured that millions of taxpayers can count on this critical program for many tax seasons to come. There is still more that can be done because the demand for VITA continues to grow.
Use the form below to send an e-mail to your elected officials urging them to increase investments in VITA to at least $25 million.
Personalized e-mails are especially effective. Consider adding why VITA is important to you and the hardworking taxpayers in your community.
