Volunteer Profile: Christine and Morgan

United Way Volunteers

In South Baltimore, the Brooklyn/Curtis Bay neighborhood has long faced geographic and systemic barriers that limit access to critical services and resources. But volunteers like Christine and Morgan are showing what’s possible when neighbors work together to lend a helping hand.

Each month, Curtis Bay Elementary School, a United Way Community School, transforms into a grocery store-style food distribution site, giving local families access to fresh food and essential items in a welcoming, dignified environment.

Through Under Armour’s volunteer initiatives, employees Christine and Morgan have become vital members of this effort. For more than a year, the pair has helped power this monthly distribution, supporting families across the Curtis Bay community.

Their commitment is deeply personal. Growing up, both experienced what it’s like to need extra help. That lived experience fuels their desire to create a warm, supportive space where families feel seen and valued.

“When you volunteer, you become a part of their community,” Christine shared. From dance parties while waiting for deliveries to witnessing the dedication of the Curtis Bay Elementary staff, Christine and Morgan find joy in the small, meaningful moments of connection.

But above all, it’s about ensuring families have what they need. When asked why others should volunteer, Christine spoke about the unmistakable “feeling” of service, while Morgan put it simply: “It shouldn’t take much convincing to volunteer — everybody deserves to have their basic needs met.”

Through their time and dedication, Christine and Morgan have helped make South Baltimore a stronger, more connected and resilient community.
