Truist Foundation supports United Way Worldwide efforts to help communities recover after Hurricane Isaias

On October 9, Hurricane Isaias made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, leaving behind widespread destruction across the Florida Panhandle and parts of Alabama and Georgia.

Before Hurricane Isaias reached the Gulf Coast, communities were already preparing for what the storm might bring.

Ahead of landfall near Destin, Fla., United Way and local partners worked together to coordinate resources, share information, and support residents across the Southeast.

The hurricane brought 105-mph winds, heavy rain, and flash flooding, leaving some communities without power as trees and power lines came down.

In response to Hurricane Isaias, Truist Foundation announced a $250,000 donation to support immediate relief and longer-term recovery. The funding will be distributed among United Way Worldwide and two other nonprofits.

“When disaster strikes, communities need support in the immediate aftermath, but they also need partners committed to the recovery that follows," said Namrata Yadav, chief culture and philanthropy officer at Truist.

“By working alongside organizations with deep expertise and strong community connections, we can help meet critical needs now while supporting the longer-term work of rebuilding and strengthening communities," Yadav said.

Through its disaster resilience work, United Way helps communities build the relationships, resources and support systems needed before, during and after emergencies.

“Recovery doesn't start after the storm. It starts before it arrives," said Marcus T. Coleman, Jr., vice president of community resilience at United Way Worldwide. "That's why preparedness matters."

Support from partners like Truist Foundation helps make that work possible.
