Meeting Local needs

United Way brings local ideas, people and resources together to make sure everyone-especially the most vulnerable-has the opportunity to thrive.

I'm always amazed that United Way touches each and every one of our communities. From children to seniors to youth, to everything and anything.

We Don't Do It Alone

We partner to bring people together and create lasting change. In Latin America, our partnership with Kyndryl has brought STEM education to 2,800 students, fostering skills for future careers while also sparking interest in tech industries.

Stories of Impact

We live where we serve, working with local leaders and residents. Together, we're using local data and local insights to create solutions tailor-made to that community's challenges. It's all rooted in United Way values and the strategies we know work, but we don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions.

The Courageous Crew

Human trafficking is a global problem, and Ghana has long been used as a location of origin, passage, and destination for men, women, and children forced into labor and sex trafficking.  Approximately 22% of children in Ghana are engaged in some form of child labor. United Way Southwest Virginia Invests in the Future

In Southwest Virginia the threat of persistent poverty has cast a long shadow. Over the course of decades, this lingering issue has affected 6% of the state's population or more than 492k Virginia residents, leaving entire counties trapped in a cycle of deprivation. Breaking this cycle requires more than just good intentions. Persistent poverty is a complex issue that includes educational outcomes, transition to employment, access to healthcare and opportunities for financial stability. Most of the affected counties are part of the Virginia’s southwest region and are served by the United Way of Southwest Virginia (UWSWVA), that is meeting the challenge through innovative interventions.
