United Way stands with those affected by the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri

United Way Worldwide offers its deepest sympathy to the people affected by the tornado that caused total destruction in parts of Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011. The tornado, the strongest in Missouri's history, claimed more than 100 lives, left more than 1,000 people injured, and destroyed destroyed more than 2,000 structures along its six mile path.  

United Ways are working with private, public, faith-based and community partners to assess the long-term recovery needs of the community. Additionally, United Ways are assisting response agencies in the provision of food, shelter, emergency health and transportation for those affected by the tornado.

What you can do to help in the affected communities

Heart of Missouri United Way is helping to raise awareness, coordinate relief and raise disaster relief funds.  Text-to-Give: Text JOPLIN to 864833 to give a gift of $10 to the disaster relief effort.
