United Way joins America in mourning the loss of Senator Bob Dole who, in his nearly eight decades of service, sacrifice and commitment to others, reminds us why he stands out as among the best of the Greatest Generation.
Senator Dole leaves behind a long legacy of leadership, but his lasting impact transcends politics and continues to touch the lives of millions of people every day – well beyond the Kansans he served tirelessly for nearly four decades.
From enshrining the bravery of his fellow veterans in the World War II Memorial; to affirming the rights of millions of disabled Americans in the Americans with Disabilities Act; to ensuring that those in need receive the help they deserve through the federal school lunch program and Food Stamp Act, Senator Dole’s life was defined by a deep and lifelong commitment to giving back.
We honor Senator Dole for living an exemplary life and mission of public service.
Our thoughts are with Senator Elizabeth Dole and Robin Dole. We hope they will be comforted by a lifetime of memories, and a legacy that will inspire and touch millions for years to come.
