United Way Leaders Descend on Capitol Hill

More Than 1,000 Staff And Volunteers From Across The Country Advocate For Issues Related to Education, Income and Health  

 

Alexandria, VA – On Thursday, March 18, 2010, more than 1,000 leaders from United Ways across the country came to Washington, D.C to meet with their Congress members to discuss the need for Federal support for:  2-1-1 (non-emergency dialing number for access to health and human services); Parental Information and Resource Centers (PIRC), the Federal Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Grant Program; the nutrition authorization act (includesWIC, School Lunch and Breakfast, Summer Food Program, etc.); and protection ofthe charitable tax deduction.  Read more about United Way’s public policy agenda for the 111th Congress here.
