Anmed Health Diversity Director Is Elected to United Way’s U.S.A. Board of Trustees

United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit, today elected Juana Spears Slade, Director of Diversity and Language Services at AnMed Health, to support its U.S. mobilization work over the next three years.

“Juana’s deep commitment to the United Way movement, her role on the Women’s Leadership Council and the unique approaches and perspectives diversity professionals bring to community impact, is highly valued in the United Way network,” said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide.

Slade accepted her nomination to the U.S.A. Board of Trustees and confirmed her commitment to the Women’s Leadership Council’s pledge to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors to help United Way reduce the number of young people who drop-out of high school. United Way advances the common good by focusing on improving education, helping people achieve financial stability, and promoting healthy lives by mobilizing millions of people to give, advocate, and volunteer to improve the conditions in which they live.

Slade is the Director of Diversity and Language Services for AnMed Health, South Carolina’s largest private, nonprofit health system. Under her leadership, AnMed Health has developed a comprehensive diversity program to better manage the organization’s increasingly diverse patient populations and workforce.

Slade is actively involved in her community and currently serves as Chair of the United Way National Women’s Leadership Council. In 2010, she completed a two-year term as Chairperson of the Board of Directors at United Way of Anderson County, the first African American to serve in this capacity. Slade is the immediate Past President of the South Carolina Society of Healthcare Diversity Professionals, an affiliated personal membership group of the South Carolina Hospital Association.
