Lyft was founded in June 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. Lyft is the fastest growing rideshare company in the U.S. and is available to 95 percent of the US population as well as in Ontario, Canada. Lyft is preferred by drivers and passengers for its safe and friendly experience, and its commitment to effecting positive change for the future of our cities. Through our partnership, in 2018 we launched a 12-market pilot program to provide limited free rides to people with specific healthcare, employment, veterans and disaster relief needs.
In 2019, Lyft is supporting the expansion of the transportation program, Ride United, through the in-app donation function, Round Up & Donate. Through Round Up & Donate, users can round up a ride fare to the nearest whole dollar and then donate the difference to United Way’s Ride United which is featured as one of the designated charity programs. 211 specialists in pilot markets will provide Lyft rides to callers in need. 211 is a vital service leveraged by millions of people across North America. Every day, clients contact 211 to access free and confidential crisis and emergency counseling, disaster assistance, food, health care and insurance assistance, stable housing and utilities payment assistance, employment services, veteran services and childcare and family services.
