Teresa (Terrie) L. Edwards

Regional President of Southside & Northeast North Carolina Sentara Healthcare

Terrie Edwards is a Regional President for Sentara Healthcare, responsible for five hospitals, approximately 5,300 FTES, and gross revenue of $5.3B with a combined NOI of $339M in 2021. Additionally, she is responsible for the system Operational Process Improvement and has served as the Operations leader for the System Covid Task Force since its inception in January 2020.

Before this position, Terrie served a similar role in the Peninsula Market with responsibility for three Sentara hospitals, Home Care, Hospice, Specialty Pharmacy, and other Sentara businesses. Terrie joined Sentara in September of 2008 as the President of Sentara Leigh Hospital, a 250-bed hospital in Norfolk, Va.

Before joining Sentara, Terrie was the President of Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, where she planned the hospital, opened it, and operated it for its first three years. Additionally, she has been a Practice Administrator for an extensive Cardiac & Thoracic surgical practice and Chief Operating Officer roles in two previous hospitals.

Her current community involvement includes the South Hampton Roads YMCA (currently serving as past chair of the Board of Directors and on the board for 12 years), United Way of Hampton Roads (as Board member, Women United member and part of the “10 for 10” committee), Old Dominion University (with the WIN Women’s Initiative Network), Young Life (with the Old Dominion Regional Leadership Committee) and member of River Oak Church (serving on the hospitality team and involved with Missions to Haiti, 8 times).

She is married to Jon Edwards, and they have three grown children. Terrie obtained her Master of Health Administration from the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia (Richmond, Virginia) and a Bachelor of Science Degree from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, Virginia).
