Alexandria, VA and New York — Barry Salzberg, Global Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), today was elected to a two-year term as chairman of United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately funded nonprofit. For more than 25 years, DTTL and its member firms have supported United Way around the world through pro bono consulting, workplace giving campaigns, and direct engagement in community initiatives, including employee volunteerism.
“Barry brings extensive corporate engagement expertise and a personal commitment to improving people’s lives through United Way to our worldwide network,” said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide. “Barry’s leadership will be a tremendous asset to our communities.”
Salzberg joined the Deloitte organization in 1977, was admitted as partner of Deloitte LLP in the United States in 1985, served as Deloitte U.S. member firm CEO from 2007 to 2011, and was elected DTTL Global CEO in June 2011. Under Salzberg’s leadership as Deloitte U.S. CEO, the member firm ran consecutive record-breaking United Way campaigns, with the most Tocqueville donors (above $10,000) of any company in the United States. As U.S. CEO, Salzberg also established the United Way education collaboratives, which have raised nearly $4 million for education, particularly college readiness.
“The Deloitte global network’s longstanding commitment to United Way Worldwide is due to the nonprofit’s significant impact in communities around the world,” said Salzberg. “I am honored to help lead the United Way network to further increase this impact in the areas of education, income, and health.”
Salzberg also serves as Chairman of the Board of College Summit and is chair emeritus of the YMCA of Greater New York.
