How is volunteering impacting different societies around the world? What do we have in common with them? Find out the answer to this question and more on December 5 when the State of the World's Volunteerism report is launched. Read more about it.
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program is the UN organization that supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteering, including the mobilization of volunteers. It is universal, inclusive and embraces volunteer action in all its diversity. It values free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteering.
UNV is inspired by the conviction that volunteering can transform the pace and nature of development and by the idea that everyone can contribute their time and energy towards peace and development. With partners, UNV advocates for volunteering, integrates volunteering into development planning and mobilizes volunteers. The enormous potential of volunteering is an inspiration to UNV and to volunteers around the world.
The very first State of the World’s Volunteerism Report (SWVR) by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program will be launched on December 5, 2011 in many countries around the world with the main launch being held in New York. The report examines important contributions in diverse fields such as sustainable livelihoods, social inclusion, social cohesion, disaster risk reduction, governance and political participation. By suggesting how volunteering can be taken forward, the SWVR also provides an alternative vision of a better society. The State of the World’s Volunteerism Report shows that, in most societies around the world, volunteers make significant contributions to economic and social development.comments powered by Disqus
