In the Bay Area, Women United has chosen to focus its attention on women’s economic stability.  These women leaders have adopted United Way’s SparkPoint Initiative as their signature focus.

SparkPoint Centers are family-friendly places where hard-working, low-income individuals can access a full range of services to help them move out of poverty and achieve long-term financial stability. Through this initiative, SparkPoint centers across the Bay Area support women and their families in achieving economic independence.

This year, Women United heard the inspiring stories of clients like Maria from Contra Costa County. Maria came to SparkPoint seeking a career change and in the process was matched up with Diana, a financial counselor who also helped her get her debt under control. Maria cut her debt in half and saved enough to take her daughter on vacation to Disneyland.

“I did work really hard and Diana helped me a lot,” Maria says. “I’m really happy about SparkPoint, and I’m so thankful they’re here for us.”
