United Way and Salesforce Offer Salesforce.org Philanthropy Cloud at No Cost in COVID-19 Response

Alexandria, Va. (March 27, 2020) – United Way Worldwide, in partnership with Salesforce, is offering free access to Salesforce.org Philanthropy Cloud to companies in the U.S. that wish to enable their employees to engage with their communities. Philanthropy Cloud connects employees with the causes they care most about, driving support to nonprofit organizations through employee giving and volunteering. The platform is included as part of Salesforce Care, a Salesforce initiative that offers free solutions to help companies stay connected to stakeholders as they work through the COVID-19 pandemic. Philanthropy Cloud is available now and can be quickly set up.

As part of the Salesforce Care package, Philanthropy Cloud will offer communications focused on a remote workforce. It will stay active until September 30, 2020, free of charge, to give employers a way to keep employees informed about their company’s philanthropic initiatives regarding the crisis while providing a platform to galvanize them around a response.

With Philanthropy Cloud, employees can enroll in virtual or skills-based volunteering opportunities and make secure credit card donations to charities of their choice, including United Way Worldwide’s COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. Volunteer opportunities could include pro bono work, helping set up virtual services, or organizing neighborhood outreach to deliver groceries to the elderly and others who are unable to leave their homes. Reporting capabilities are also included, so business leadership, human resources, and corporate social responsibility personnel can organize and report on employees’ activity.

“With so many employees working from home amid increased uncertainty, businesses are looking for ways to stay connected with them virtually,” said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide. “By offering Philanthropy Cloud free of charge, we are making it easier for companies to engage their workforce and bring people together, while helping employees fulfill their desire to give back to their local communities when they need it most.”

Throughout the duration of the no-cost period, Philanthropy Cloud will be updated in real time with stories of local United Way relief efforts, communicating community needs and support services. United Way will also provide access to Impact Funds and additional virtual volunteering opportunities.

"We need to work together at times like this. Throughout this crisis, I’ve been truly inspired by how United Way, as well as our local and global communities, are responding with urgency,” said Rob Acker, CEO of Salesforce.org. “By making Philanthropy Cloud free for all, we hope to empower people who want to help."

U.S. companies can request free access to Philanthropy Cloud until June 30, with service through September 30, 2020. Please visit for more information.
