UPS delivers long-term commitment to community resiliency with annual United Way campaign

UPS and its employees, both active and retired, raised $59.1 million for communities during the 2012 United Way campaign; $1 million of UPS’s nearly $8 million corporate gift will be designated to United Way Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The $1M contribution will be distributed to local United Ways along the Eastern Seaboard to address the ongoing recovery needs of communities most affected by the hurricane.

This includes helping United Way’s community partners provide everything from food, clothing, blankets and temporary shelter to supporting longer-term needs such as medical and mental health services, transportation, housing and utilities, job retraining and expanding United Way’s 2-1-1 call center capacity; all needs not covered by insurance or government programs.

"UPS has proven its commitment to communities is long-term," said Stacey D. Stewart, U.S. President of United Way Worldwide. "The company and its employees are there for families and communities to help with long-term disaster recovery – even more importantly, they are there every single day, as they have been for more than 30 years, giving their time and resources to make communities stronger for all of us."

UPS is the first and only corporate donor to run a United Way-branded campaign that has generated more than $1 billion in giving. As one of United Way's elite Global Corporate Leaders, UPS has twice won the organization's highest national honor: the United Way Spirit of America® Award. UPS has seen two consecutive years of growth in excess of six percent on their annual employee campaign. Additionally, during last year’s campaign, the company added 94 new “Tocqueville Donors” -- employees who pledged a minimum of $10,000. UPS has also leveraged its sponsorship connections, supporting United Way for the past four years with the donation of autographed sports, celebrity and entertainment items for a charitable auction, with 100% of the purchase price going to United Way.
