Primus Telecommunications Chairman Is Re-Elected to United Way’s U.S.A. Board of Trustees

United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately funded nonprofit, today re-elected Peter Aquino, Chairman of Primus Telecommunications Group, Inc. (PTGi), to a second term as an at-large trustee to support the organization’s U.S. network over the next three years.

“Peter’s understanding of the United Way movement and his experience will be a critical asset to the U.S. national network as we mobilize communities around the world to advance the common good,” said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide.

Aquino accepted the re-election to confirm his support of the United Way’s mission to advance the common good by focusing on improving education, helping people achieve financial stability, and promoting healthy lives by mobilizing millions of people to give, advocate, and volunteer to improve the conditions in which they live. Aquino currently serves as chair of the United Way U.S. Nominating Committee.

Aquino is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at PTGi, an integrated facilities-based communications services provider offering international and domestic voice, voice-over-internet protocol, Internet, wireless, data and data center services to business and residential retail customers and other carriers in the United States and abroad. Prior to PTGi, he led RCN from emergence of bankruptcy through its sale in 2010. Under his leadership, RCN was built into an all-digital HDTV cable multiple system operator and created an advanced fiber-based commercial network through organic and acquisition strategies.

Aquino is a graduate of Monclair State University in New Jersey, and the Graduate School of Business at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He currently serves on the Board of PTGi and TiVO Inc.
