Phil Baldwin Elected to Serve Second Term as Chairman of United Way’s U.S.A. Board of Trustees

United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit, elected Philip Baldwin, President and Chief Executive Officer of CredAbility, to a second term as Chairman of United Way’s U.S.A. Board of Trustees.

“Phil’s personal commitment to improving education and increasing the financial stability of rural families, along with his professional expertise in nonprofit credit counseling and the finance industry, will continue to be an incredible asset to our work in mobilizing communities,” said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide.

Baldwin serves as chair of the U.S.A. Board of Trustees because the organization plays a critical role in improving educational opportunities for children and youth, and increasing the financial stability of low-wage families. United Way advances the common good by focusing on improving education, helping people achieve financial stability, and promoting healthy lives by mobilizing millions of people to give, advocate and volunteer to improve the conditions in which they live.

Baldwin is President and Chief Executive Officer of CredAbility, a leading national nonprofit community-service agency that provides confidential budget counseling, money management education, debt management programs, bankruptcy counseling and education, and comprehensive housing counseling. Prior to joining CredAbility, he served for ten years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Bancorp, the nation’s largest rural development bank with a social mission directed at improving educational opportunities, decreasing poverty and reducing unemployment in disadvantaged rural communities.

Baldwin is a dedicated community leader at both the local and national level, and currently serves on the boards of directors at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and Ouachita Baptist University. In 2010, he was named one of the top five social entrepreneurs in the U.S. by Bloomberg-Business Week Magazine.
