The United Way Worldwide Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund

United Way created the United Way Worldwide Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund to support communities in Mexico affected by the recent earthquakes across the country.

As part of our mission to build stronger communities, and to fight for every person in every community, United Ways in the affected areas will continue to raise money locally and respond to emerging needs as appropriate for their community. United Way Worldwide’s Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund will complement those efforts and provide a single clearinghouse for individual and corporate donors who want to support affected areas.

With your help, United Way has raised almost $1.4 million for mid- and long-term recovery from National and Local funds.

  • Why have we set up this fund?

It is part of United Way’s ongoing work to support community rebuilding, a role we play after first responders’ work is done.

United Way has served as the cornerstone for mid- and long-term recovery after countless disasters around the world. United Way is proud to partner with the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and many others who are helping with immediate relief efforts.

United Way is laying the ground work for the region’s long-term recovery, which is expected to take several years.

United Way plays a critical role in short-term assistance, gathering emergency and immediate relief resources. But it is also the “glue” that holds communities together for longer-term recovery.

  • How will United Way be accountable for this fund?

United Way Worldwide will report the combined total amount of money raised by the national fund and Fondo Unido México on this website, updated daily. Distributions will also be tracked on the website.

United Way Worldwide meets the Better Business Bureau’s 20 Standards for Charity Accountability spanning Governance, Measuring Effectiveness, Finances and Fundraising. The Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance helps donors make informed giving decisions and promotes high standards of conduct among organizations that solicit contributions from the public. Evaluations are done without charge to the charity and are posted for free public access on www.give.org.

  • How will United Way distribute the funds?

The United Way Worldwide Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund will help Fondo Unido México and their trusted partners in Mexico meet earthquake related needs and support long-term recovery throughout the affected areas.
