Using community resources
Many people work hard and still find themselves short of cash at the end of the month. You may find that you are in the same situation. If so, there may be resources in your community to help you make ends meet. While some people may feel embarrassed to reach out and ask for help, you are not alone. Community-based organizations exist to serve those in need.
The resources that are available can vary by community, but generally include food, housing, energy assistance, education, child care, job and career, and medical assistance. They are provided by the federal and state government, local non-profits, and/or faith-based organizations. Most will ask you questions about your household to make sure that you qualify. Some resources are designed to fill in the gaps during short-term emergencies, while others can be used longer-term.
