Housing Resources in Your Community
If you have always been able to pay your rent or mortgage, you may not be aware of the resources available to help you when times get tough. Both short-term and long-term crises, such as a divorce, death in the family, unexpected job loss, or an illness, may make it necessary for you to seek assistance to maintain your housing.
Both public agencies and not-profit organizations may be able to help. Public agencies are funded with your tax dollars and have a mandate to help residents that qualify for their services. Non-profit organizations operate under a mission to serve those in need. Services range from education and counseling to short-term grants or long-term subsidized rent.
Reaching out to these resources may be hard, but they operate in your community for a reason. With education and/or short- or long-term assistance, they can help you get back on your feet so that you can continue to support your household and work towards your other financial goals.
