United Way Bengaluru is working in partnership with individuals, companies, resident welfare associations, and citizens restore the local lakes and reverse the negative effects of recent and rapid urbanization. Since the sixteenth century, the main source of clean water for residents of Bengaluru was a system of interconnected lakes that have slowly disappeared and become increasingly polluted. Raising community awareness and bringing citizens together, United Way Bengaluru’s Lake Rejuvenation project seeks to ensure that the area lakes remain free of sewage and litter and to create a sense of community ownership. To date, the United Way Bengaluru is in the process of restoring 11 lakes and have mobilized 100 volunteers. www.uwbengaluru.org
