Tell Congress: It’s Time to Stand for Working Americans

We need your help.

The Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit are the nation’s strongest tools to promote work and help working families keep more of what they earn. Americans use the credits to pay for things like childcare, groceries, or car payments so they can get to work, or to save for a rainy day.

But without Congressional action, key provisions of these important tax credits will go away, and more than 50 million Americans, including 25 million children, will feel the cut. (Read more in our fact sheet here.)

Your Members of Congress are at home this week to find out what issues matter to you. Before they head back to Washington, take a moment to tell your representatives what’s at stake.

You can help us save these credits in three easy ways:

  1. Spread the good word (15 second action)
  2. Send an email to your Members of Congress (1 minute action)
  3. Send a letter to your local newspaper (2 minute action)

If you see your letter to the editor in the paper, share it with us via Twitter (@Unitedway) and/or in the comments box below. Voices aligned together, we can impact millions. Let’s do this.

Stand Up for Working Americans

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of the best tools we have to promote work and fight poverty, lifting about 6 million Americans out of poverty annually. Only those who work are eligible, and recipients use the EITC for reliable transportation to work, groceries, and quality childcare. Ask Congress to expand the EITC for working Americans who are shut out from the credit and taxed into poverty.
