While taxes might feel like Brutus coming for you at times, we’ve got your back here at United Way.
Here are two free filing options to know about:
- Online: Households earning less than $62,000 can file state and federal taxes online for free at MyFreeTaxes.com. Powered by H&R Block, securely enter your info anytime, anywhere, including through your mobile phone. Free and easy.
- In-Person: Thanks to the skills and talents of IRS trained community volunteers, those earning $54,000 or less can get taxes done for free, and connect to tax credits and asset building resources at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites nationwide.
In 2014 alone, nearly 2 million households used VITA and connected to $2.3 billion in refunds, largely due to impactful resources like the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. Pretty great, right?
That’s why at United Way, March 15th really means we are celebrating two things: the kick-off of the final month of tax season and VITA Awareness Day (because #VITAworks and only 72% of Americans are aware they qualify for free tax preparation services like VITA or MyFreeTaxes).
So check out MyFreeTaxes.com or connect to a VITA site by calling 2-1-1. And while you’re at it, tell friends you’ve got their back this Ides of March by sharing these tools online.
Et tu, taxes? Not this time.
