The second edition of the United Way Day of Action in Romania mobilized 630 volunteers belonging to 15 companies that we thank and acknowledge: Accenture, Achieve Global, Allianz Tiriac, Arobs Transilvania Software, BNP Leasing Solutions, CMS Cameron McKenna, DLA Piper, Electronic Arts, Eli Lilly, Genpact Cluj, GlaxoSmithKline, JW Marriott, Kinstellar, Metro, Raiffeisen Bank and Romtelecom.
Through their joint efforts, the volunteers collected school supplies and money that totaled 1,000 edu-kits that were distributed to children helped by United Way in Bucharest, Cluj and Timisoara . Therefore, besides the support these children receive throughout the year (covering basic needs such as food, clothing, counseling and constant educational support in daycare centers), children from low income families will be more prepared to return to school in September.
Some of the children enjoyed the company of our volunteers in educational and recreational activities: visits to the zoo and to the museums in Bucharest, Cluj and Timisoara while some volunteers worked hard to renovate and refurbish a day-care center for disadvantaged children or to put in place a playing and relaxation area for other disadvantaged children.
All the activities related to the Day of Action in Romania were presented via The 21, the live web broadcasting by Marina Boeriu, the Cluj Local Representative. Marina Boeriu has been with United Way Romania for almost 5 years and is in charge with the overall operations of the local office in Cluj. She used this opportunity to present the problems of the education system in Romania and the vision for the future of United Way Romania: that of being present and address problems in more communities throughout the country.
