As a first step into social and humanitarian engagement, Be-Bound* is partnering with United Way to contribute to the reconstruction efforts in the Philippines following the Haiyan typhoon. Access to communications being a key element in rebuilding and recovery efforts, Be-Bound has set up a Philippines initiative throughout December, including:
1- Granting 50 free Be-Miles (renewed as necessary) to anyone using Be-Bound in the Philippines,
2- Donating the gross margin on all purchased Be-Miles globally during the Philippines initiative to United Way,
3- Enabling free downloads of the Be-Bound App to encourage new users to buy Be-Miles, which will increase the amount Be-Bound can donate through this initiative, and
4- Enabling Filipinos to stay connected for free with the help of a local mobile Network operator that would provide a short code to send Be-Bound’s SMS to.
The Philippines initiative is the first project of many more to come, as part of a lasting partnership with United Way.
*Be-Bound is a unique solution that allows Smartphone users to stay connected to the Internet regardless of the network provider and the network quality.
The Be-Bound App, launched in November 2013 and already used in more than 100 countries, enables its users to stay connected almost anywhere at any time, as long as they have a Smartphone (currently on Android only) and some network (even if networks are poor or congested). Using Be-Bound is free on high-speed networks, while for low-speed networks (2G), users buy “Be Miles” prepaid cards.
