Mary Ellen Garrett joined Merrill Lynch in 1983. She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and moved to Atlanta in 1980 where she began her career in the securities industry. She has served Merrill Lynch as Divisional Manager and Vice President of the Estate Planning Division, as well as the Regional Manager of the Direct Investment Group for the Southeast Region.
Currently, Mary Ellen serves as Senior Vice President – Investments. The Garrett Group is part of Merrill Lynch’s Global Wealth Management Group and provides wealth management services for individuals and corporations. She is a graduate of the Institute for Investment Management Consultants, a certified member of Merrill Lynch’s training school. In 2011, Mary Ellen was a recipient of the Womenetics POW Award. In 2009 she was recognized as one of Barron’s America’s Top Advisors State-by-State. She was also named as one of 10 honorees from financial services firms across the U.S. to receive Outstanding Broker Awards co-sponsored by Registered Rep magazine. The award recognizes commitment to professional excellence, client trust and community service. In 2005, Mary Ellen received the State By State Winner’s Circle Award from Research magazine, and in 2006, she was the recipient of the Atlanta Community Award for Leadership, Character and Integrity. She was also named as one of Worth’s top 100 Wealth Advisors in 2007, 2008 and 2010. She is a current member and Chair Emeritus of Merrill Lynch’s National Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council To Management.
Mary Ellen currently sits on the boards of Atlanta Catholic Archdiocese – Financial Advisory Council; Atlanta Community Foundation – Philanthropic Council; St. Joseph’s Mercy Foundation – Board Member; The Carter Center – Board of Councilors; Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Philanthropic Chair. Mary Ellen recently sat on the boards of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta – Financial Services Chair; United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta – Women’s Initiative & Legacy Chair; Emory University – Board of Visitors; Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Community Board Member; Marist School – Board Trustee; Big Brother and Big Sisters of Atlanta – Board Member; Visions Anew – Advisory Board Member; The Wellness Community – Advisory Board Member; Sandy Springs Youth Sports – Fund-Raising Chair; St. Jude’s Catholic Church – Council Member.
Personally, Mary Ellen has been married to Scott since 1982 and has three children. Alexander, age 24, a 2009 Vanderbilt University graduate and a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch’s Global Corporate Services and twin girls, age 22, Anna, a senior at Auburn University and Patsy, a 2011 graduate of Miami University.
