John Taylor is the Chief Technology Officer & Senior Vice President at United Way Worldwide. Before that, John served as Senior Executive-In-Charge, responsible for United Way Worldwide’s Northeast Regional Office in Tri-State. He has also worked with United Way of Metropolitan Chicago as the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Community Relations. In this role, John led United Way’s efforts in coordinating Hurricane Katrina relief efforts for 8,000 Gulf Coast evacuees relocated to Chicago. He has also held professional management positions with United Way of Central Maryland, as well as with United Parcel Service and the U.S. Census Bureau.
John has practical and theoretical experience in information technology, volunteer development, community-building, strategic planning, financial management, outcomes measurement, organizational capacity-building and performance management. He is certified in Project Management, and has had formal training in cultural sensitivity, strategic writing and customer service. He earned an MBA, with specialization in MIS, from the University of Baltimore, and a B.S. in Administration from Columbia Union College. John is a member of the national graduate honors fraternity, Iota Epsilon.
John has been an active commiunity leader as well He has has served as Executive Director of the Rehoboth Community Development and Empowerment Corporation, is a graduate of the United Way Advanced Leadership program, and is graduating member of the Millennial Class of Associated Black Charities’ Leadership Program and served as the 2003-2004 President of the Alumni Association for the same organization. John has also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and HERO (Health Education Resource Organization), providing caregiver services to people impacted by HIV/AIDS. He currently serves on the board of the SecurityPlus Federal Credit Union, responsible for more than $350 million in assets, serving members from the federal government and community. In addition to his role as Board Director, John serves as Chair of the Information Systems Technology Committee and member of the Supervisory Committee for the organization.
