United Way Worldwide Applauds Every Student Succeeds Act, Urges Swift Passage

Alexandria, VA (Dec. 2, 2015) - United Way Worldwide is pleased to endorse the Every Student Success Act, a bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The proposal would replace No Child Left Behind and includes important provisions on low-performing schools, wraparound supports and family engagement, as well as literacy and early learning.

“No issue is more central to United Way's efforts to build strong communities than the education of our nation’s children,” said Steven S. Taylor, Senior Vice President and Counsel for Public Policy at United Way Worldwide. “We support this bipartisan compromise that includes policies and programs to protect and support disadvantaged students, while also allowing flexibility for locally-tailored solutions that engage families and community-based organizations. We now urge swift passage of this long overdue update by the full House and Senate. United Ways in communities across the country stand ready to support its implementation to ensure all students have access to high quality education and are ready for careers after graduation.”
