NFL, FORMER NFL PLAYERS, NFL SPONSORS & UNITED WAY JOIN FOR FIRST KICKOFF COMMUNITY REBUILD

WHAT:

The NFL, its sponsors and business partners, former NFL players and volunteers from United Way will rebuild homes for families still displaced from Hurricane Katrina.  The NFL’s efforts are part of United Way’s “NO Place Like Home” initiative, through which United Way has been rebuilding homes in New Orleans since June with the goal of one home per week through October. The NFL and its partners will be working on multiple houses in the Chalmette and Arabi sections of New Orleans (communities just outside the Lower Ninth Ward).  

In addition, the NFL has adopted the Carcamo family, a family of eight that has lacked stable housing since Hurricane Katrina, to live in the “NFL house.”  This house will receive the following items from the NFL and its partners:  full entertainment system, camera, two LCD TVs, EA SPORTS Madden NFL 11, cans of Campbell’s soup, household items courtesy of Procter & Gamble, Bridgestone tires, snacks and drinks courtesy of Pepsico and MARS, VISA gift card, Reebok $500 gift cards, NFLShop.com $100 gift card.  FedEx will provide free delivery of the items to the house.

The family that will live in the “NFL house” also will be guests of the NFL at NFL Kickoff 2010 at Jackson Square on Thursday, followed by the New Orleans Saints-Minnesota Vikings game at the Louisiana Superdome.
