the dynamic duo

delores brunson was my second grade teacher and the first person to validate my existence, the fact i am here for a reason. i liked to read during class and one morning she talked to me about this, very kindly and offered me a "deal": i could read for five minutes at the beginning of class no matter what and after that i would participate. to my seven year old mind it was the best deal ever. what she did taught me the value of meeting people where they are, not simply trying to "conform" them.

diane carter (buford) was my middle school angel. she taught English but what i learned from her is with me every single day. she showed me love, by ensuring i went on field trips when i had no funds, that i ate when i had no lunch, that she did all she could to help me have the best school/life experience possible. more than anything, she LISTENED to me and care about what i had to say. in her care i learned not only was i here for the reason i got in 2nd grade, i was wonderful just as i was.

i will never never never forget what these women did for me. i am so grateful for them.
