No-nee-nay-noo-nah
The title represents the usual warm up Mr. Harper would have us do at each rehearsal. John C. Harper was the chorus director at Penn Yan Academy during the mid-1950's through the mid-1970's. He and music were the most important aspects of my high-school years. He led the select chorus, Varitones, and the large senior chorus. Each year Varitones would go on tour and perform in communities far from home. Each year he would have the senior chorus take on a major choral work. Before we began a performance he would look at us all and pretend he was putting a smile on his face...to remind us to smile as we began to sing. Music has continued to be an important part of my life, as it lends balance to work and leisure. Thank you, Mr. Harper, for all the positive memories.
