Girls Can Do Math and More!
Up through 6th grade my daughter was a victim of the "girls cannot do math" attitude. She even wrote that math was a "sleeping orgre you tip-toed around so as not to awaken". In 7th grade she had a woman math teacher whose approach was very hands-on, with lots of manipulative activities. It was like turning a light on. Math became a game and it was a game my daughter was very good at. She excelled at math through high school and college is now a Disney Imagineer, an engineer with imagination who uses math every day. When we thanked that teacher she just said she was ready to understand but we think the teacher was magic.
