Acknowledging My Strengths

When I was in 4th grade my teacher, Marvin Sage, once overheard me play the school's upright piano. I had been taking lessons for 5 years at that point, but didn't like it much, nor did I think much of it. He listened to me play and praised my music. It was the first time anyone had complimented my playing and called me a musician. He then went on to organize a recital where I would perform for all of the 4th and 5th grade classes. It was at that recital that I discovered my love for performing. I went on to major in music and to sing professionally for many years. I am not sure if I would have continued with music lessons or explored other instruments had he not made such an effort to help me develop my inner performer. Thank you, Mr. Sage. You have always been my favorite teacher, and made a tremendous impact in my life.
