Post Media Release

On Friday, August 30, 2013 at The NASDAQ MarketSite, Broadcast Studio, 4 Times Square, 43rd & Broadway, NY, NY, United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) rang the Closing Bell. UWGUC representatives and corporate guests were extremely excited to attend the ringing of the Closing Bell at The NASDAQ Stock Market.

UWGUC rang the Closing Bell to commemorate the kick-off of its Annual Workplace Fundraising Campaign and to provide an opportunity to thank its many corporate partners who vehemently stepped-up and made last year’s campaign highly successful.  Corporate representatives, who attended the Closing Bell ceremony, came from C. R. Bard, CINTAS, NJ County of Union, Hub International, Linde North America, NuStar Energy LP, and UPS.  Many more will begin their workplace campaigns in the coming weeks.

Situated in central NJ, many Union County families and residents endured and suffered a great deal of loss due to Hurricane Sandy.  Immediately responding to the challenges presented by the natural disaster, UWGUC asked its corporate partners to work extra hard to help raise funds and resources so they could help hurricane victims as well as continue its mission of helping strengthen families.  The response exceeded expectations and many answered the call to the tune of $304,000 for the Hurricane Sandy Community Relief Fund.

As UWGUC begins to work with its many corporate sponsors, philanthropists, and donors, they will advocate for the many hurricane victims who are struggling to recover.  UWGUC continues to receive funds and in-kind donations from its partners who have pledged to also participate in the annual workplace fundraising campaign.

“The needs of our greater Union County families have grown tremendously, and the hurricane was especially difficult to overcome.  Too many families in our community are struggling and the media and emergency effort placed more emphasis on the Jersey Shore.  Our community suffered as well and the ringing of the Closing Bell was a symbolic tribute to our corporate sponsors who do business in Union County and joined us in helping those most in need,” states James W. Horne, President/CEO, UWGUC.  “Not only did we gain another opportunity to thank our sponsors, our visit to The NASDAQ created a great deal of enthusiasm for our partners who are gearing-up for their workplace campaigns. It was a lot of fun.”

The NASDAQ Opening and Closing Bells are events that are broadcasted around the world so that hundreds of thousands can part-take in the event.  It is considered very special and an honor for those who participate.   For more information visit www.uwguc.org
