Mr. Aquino is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Primus Telecommunications since October 2010. Primus Telecommunications Group is an integrated facilities-based communications services provider offering international and domestic voice, voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP), Internet, wireless, data and data center services to business and residential retail customers and other carriers located primarily in the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom and certain Western European countries.
Prior to Primus Telecommunications, Mr. Aquino led RCN from emergence of bankruptcy in December 2004 through its sale in August 2010. Under his leadership, RCN was built into an all-digital HDTV cable multiple system operator and created an advanced fiber-based commercial network through organic and acquisition strategies. Prior to joining RCN, Mr. Aquino was engaged as a telecom M&A, operations, and restructuring advisor as Senior Managing Director by Communications Technology Advisors LLC, focusing on CLEC, cable, and wireless carriers from 2001 to 2004. During RCN’s restructuring in 2004, the company retained Mr. Aquino as an operations advisor, and was later named President and CEO as part of the new management team at emergence from bankruptcy in December 2004.
Mr. Aquino’s international experience includes the launch of Veninfotel (now NetUno) in Caracas, Venezuela from 1995 and 2000, as part of the founding team of Wave International. In 1998, Mr. Aquino was named Chief Operating Officer of Veninfotel and managed the design, construction, and operation of the first integrated Triple Play and metro fiber-based Commercial company in Latin America. Prior to Mr. Aquino’s expatriate assignment, his telecom career began at New Jersey Bell/Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) in 1983, holding various positions in finance, marketing, regulatory, and corporate development over a 13 year period.
Mr. Aquino is a graduate of Montclair State University in NJ, and the Graduate School of Business at George Washington University in D.C. He currently serves on Primus, TiVo Inc. and United Way Worldwide’s U.S. National board.
