Matt DeCamara

Senior Vice President Business Development & Strategic Initiatives

Mr. DeCamara serves on UWW’s Leadership Team and leads a range of functions and initiatives focused on United Way’s growth, development and impact. He is responsible for strategic planning, risk management, performance management and organizational integration, plus a network-wide, multi-year initiative – partnering with system leaders – to develop the economic and operating model for United Way’s future.

Matt previously shaped the strategy for the network’s portfolio of content – products, services and initiatives – and also served as Vice President of Global Initiatives with the responsibility to drive the organization toward the creation of a worldwide entity, system and movement. He led board and staff teams – and worked closely with US and international members – to gain approval for the merger of United Way of America and United Way International.

Matt’s political, nonprofit and corporate background has centered in three areas: democracy, technology and philanthropy. He worked at GE for eight years and served as Program Director at the GE Foundation, the $100 million philanthropic organization of the General Electric Company.  Matt led its international investment portfolio with a primary focus on education and children; he developed and launched multiple initiatives, including School Readiness, School Excellence, Girls Education, and Youth Employability, with an emphasis in Brazil, China, India and Mexico. For three years, he also served as the Executive Communications leader for GE’s technology business.

Matt’s professional experience also includes serving President Bush 41 and working for an international democracy assistance organization, an economic development group, and a healthcare technology company. In 1994, he served on the U.S. election observation delegation to Ukraine’s first democratic election.

Matt received his BA from Villanova University and MBA from Boston College, with a dual concentration in strategic management and marketing. He stays active in the community through a range of roles, including as a volunteer counselor each summer at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in CT for children with life-threatening conditions.  Matt and his wife, Judy, have three children – Megan, Ryan and Liam – and they reside in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
