Debbie has been a volunteer in the Des Moines, Iowa community for over 30 years, focusing her efforts primarily on education and the arts. Debbie volunteered for many years with the Des Moines Public Schools and developed and introduced “The Literacy Army.” Debbie's past community board participation includes the Des Moines Ballet, the Des Moines Art Center, the Des Moines Playhouse, the Roosevelt High Foundation and Early Childhood Iowa. She currently serves on the Terrace Hill Commission (state of Iowa gubernatorial appointment) and is the Des Moines Playhouse (community theater) capital campaign co-chair.
Debbie serves on the UWCI Education Cabinet, and is the founding member and immediate past chair of United Way of Central Iowa’s Women’s Leadership Connection. She serves on the Investment, Advocacy and Advisory committees. Debbie is also part of the original Women’s Leadership Connection steering committee, and serves on the National Women’s Leadership Council.
Debbie and her husband, Michael, have two sons and one grandson. She is happily retired from her "professional" life in publishing, and in real estate sales, development and marketing.
