Working Together to Deliver Quality Education

They say education is the foundation for building a brighter future. If that’s the case, UPS has long served as an architect of early childhood development, tackling community obstacles like illiteracy and access to quality childcare programming. Just ask the youth in Georgia, Florida and New York, whose lives were changed through UPS’s employee volunteerism efforts.

In Georgia, employees recently supported summer learning opportunities, delivered books and, through subsidies, granted children access to educational programs. These efforts have contributed to United Way of Greater Atlanta’s local education goals, with 30,023 elementary school students improving their reading skills; 49,207 middle and high school students demonstrating academic improvement; and 3,991 adults better able to support their children's development and learning.

Meanwhile, in Florida, employee volunteerism is building a bedrock for learning and growth. Working through the United Way of Collier County, UPS employees donated $21,046 to support education and promote financial stability in the region. And last fall, through the United Way of New York City, employees supported a “back to school,” backpack-stuffing event, filling 650 backpacks with supplies for students. They also assembled literacy kits for a “National Day of Action” and provided volunteers to participate in a National Summer Learning Day.

Making a mark through employee volunteerism is nothing new for UPS. Last year alone, employees invested 2.7 million volunteer hours and more than $116 million dollars into strengthening communities around the world. In recognition of their continued impact, we thank UPS for making a mark!
