Bank of America commits $2M to United Way Financial Stability Partnership
In 2006, Bank of America partnered with United Way of America to pilot an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) project enhancing outreach and free tax preparation efforts in 33 communities across the country. This partnership brought nearly $270 million back to communities by increasing the capacity of United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites and increasing the number of VITA clients through outreach efforts. Building on the success of the EITC pilot, Bank of America has signed on to expand the partnership with a commitment of $2 million over the next two years to support the United Way Financial Stability Partnership™ by expanding EITC outreach to 42 communities in 2008, sponsoring the 2008 Financial Stability Leadership Summit and supporting the development of one-stop Financial Stability Centers.

NBC's Leap for Charity
GE/NBC Universal’s “Today Show” anchor Ann Curry bungee jumped live after viewers collectively contributed more than $10,000 to United Way and Save the Children as part of their “Today Gets Extreme” series. Ann Curry’s jump was broadcast live on Monday, December 17 – after two weeks of NBC promoting the jump during the weekly broadcasts and urging viewers to visit http://today.msnbc.msn.com to give.

Comcast's United Way PSA
As a participant in United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania's Partners in Caring, Comcast Corporation produced a public service announcement (PSA) for United Way featuring Comcast, Vanguard and Tastykake employees sharing why they invest their time and money in United Way. The PSA is currently running in regular rotation on Comcast Cable in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia suburbs, Southern New Jersey and Delaware, as well as Comcast SportsNet in the same markets.

IBM equips United Way community partners
As part of its annual technology grant program, IBM Corporation provided $6.4 million worth of cash or computer equipment to United Way. The partnership provides computers such as the Young Explorers – computers loaded with educational software and housed in colorful children’s desk furniture – as well as systems for running nonprofit operations. IBM and United Way work together to provide the computers to social agency services and other community partners.

Williams gives teens a United Way voice
Williams has developed an innovative partnership with Tulsa Area United Way and YMCA of Greater Tulsa to involve teenagers in community work, teaching them leadership skills and showing them the importance of philanthropy and community involvement.

Target spreads holiday cheer
Target donated more than 4,500 decorated holiday trees – valued at $3 million – to 1,300 local United Ways across the country through the Target Share-a-Tree program. United Way volunteers delivered Target’s trees to various nonprofit agencies and families including women’s shelters and those displaced by disasters, such as fires or hurricanes.

JCPenney helps United Way provide youth with access to afterschool programs
United Way is providing more children than ever before with access to quality afterschool programs in partnership with the JCPenney Afterschool Fund, which granted United Way $1.7 million to provide assistance to 3,949 kindergarten through 12th-grade students who are otherwise financially unable to participate in an afterschool program.

Deloitte creates a United Way video game
Deloitte & Touche USA LLP and United Way teamed up to create the Virtual Team Challenge (VTC) Event! video game that teaches students about community service. Teams act as an event production company staging a community festival to raise money for United Way. The game teaches life skills and reinforces issues such as negotiation, business ethics and volunteering, in a fun, interactive and relevant way.

Publix has United Way support in the bag
To show its commitment to strengthening the communities where its employees and customers live and work, Publix Super Markets, Inc., featured the United Way logo and the text “Publix is proud to be a United Way National Corporate leader. It’s what matters” on paper and plastic grocery bags in more than 900 stores.

Colgate, United Way and "High School Musical" star create bright smiles
As part of its commitment to reach 100 million U.S. children by 2010 with free oral health education and dental screenings, Colgate-Palmolive Company partnered with United Way to host a festival that shared best practices for maintaining dental health with more than 250 elementary school students. Kids participated in a game-show-themed dental challenge hosted by “High School Musical” star Corbin Bleu, who also cheered on the students as they boarded Colgate’s “clinic on wheels,” one of a fleet of eight mobile dental vans that provide free dental screenings, treatment referrals and oral health education for millions of children across the U.S.

Northwest Airlines stands united for communities
Northwest Airlines (NWA) featured their United Way support in two articles in the September 2007 issue of their inflight magazine, NWA World Traveler. The articles focus on NWA employees’ year-round dedication to United Way, volunteerism, and the communities where they live and work.

UPS, GE, JCPenney and Pfizer help New Orleans
As our nation paused to remember the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2007, many NCL companies were working with United Way to give back to New Orleans. For complete details, read the great news from Gary Ostroske, President of the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area.

Target promotes United Way partnership
Target and United Way have worked together to strengthen communities for more than 45 years. In August 2007, Target featured this partnership in their weekly Target circular, with a circulation of 52 million and 104 million impressions.

UPS celebrates 100 years by giving back
In August 2007, UPS celebrated its 100th anniversary. In true UPS fashion, they celebrated this major milestone by focusing on people. UPS partnered with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta to volunteer for 100 Days of Caring over the 100 days of summer leading up to the company's anniversary.

IBM collaborates with United Way for community success
IBM is truly committed to a year-round partnership with United Way and has supported many United Way initiatives, including the launch of the United Way Financial Stability Partnership and the expansion of 2-1-1 and its disaster response and recovery capabilities.

Weyerhaeuser puts United Way on the air
As part of a National Public Radio (NPR) ad campaign, Weyerhaeuser Company honored United Way. Weyerhaeuser took this opportunity to highlight organizations their foundation supported, while also providing free exposure for these organizations’ great work in communities throughout the state of Washington. The following message ran on NPR affiliate KPLU. “Support for KPLU comes from you and Weyerhaeuser. Through its foundation and employees, Weyerhaeuser is proud to support United Way in King, Pierce, Cowlitz, Thurston, Grays Harbor and Lewis counties."

Welcome, Citizens Financial Group!
As part of their ongoing commitment to establish sustainable relationships with nonprofit organizations, Citizens Financial Group (CFG) recently joined the United Way National Corporate Leadership program.

FedEx’s amazing break
In 2007, FedEx was the lead sponsor for United Way Alternative Spring Break (ASB), which brought 379 young people to the Gulf Coast to volunteer in hurricane ravaged communities. ASB participants renovated 30 houses, painted 6 buildings, and repaired a children’s camp to open for the first time since Hurricane Rita hit.

Xcel Energy puts United Way on the big screen
Xcel Energy used their naming rights to Xcel Energy Center, a NHL venue in St. Paul, MN, in an effort to educate their community on United Way. Xcel donated in-arena promotion, TV and radio ads during nationally televised hockey games to promote United Way.

Nationwide ensures their communities are Born Learning
Nationwide is helping improve the communities where their employees live and work through a commitment to early education in partnership with United Way’s Born Learning campaign.
