United Way meets with NCL companies in India
The United Way Expansion Initiative, launched with a $250,000 grant from Barry Griswell, CEO of The Principal Financial Group, made major progress in November 2007, when United Way International President and CEO Teresa Hall Bartels and United Way of America President and CEO Brian Gallagher met with corporate and society leaders in India to share plans for establishing a United Way in Delhi and to review the vision for community stakeholders working to solve local problems in Delhi and cities across India. Other attendees included: Agilent Technologies, Inc., AT&T Communication Services India, Bank of America, Cargill, Chevron Petroleum India Pvt. Ltd., Citi Global Transaction Services, Exxon Mobil Gas Pvt. Ltd., Fluor, IBM India Limited, Johnson and Johnson, Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., Microsoft Corporation Pvt. Ltd., PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Raytheon International and Wal-Mart.

NCL companies help organize volunteer day in Brazil
Employees of NCL companies are making a difference in more places than just the United States. Each year, United Way Brazil, locally known as Associação Caminhando Juntos (ACJ), hosts a community-wide volunteer day. Un Dia Caminhando Juntos, or Walking Hand-in-Hand Day, brings together people from the community for volunteer activities focused on financial stability, legal assistance, health and nutrition. Un Dia Caminhando Juntos projects are planned and supported by volunteers from companies such as DuPont, Johnson & Johnson, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Procter & Gamble, Rohm and Haas Company, Pinheiro Neto Advogados, Transway and the banks Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. In its sixth year, this year’s Un Dia Caminhando Juntos has received the support of more than 300 volunteers benefiting approximately 2,500 young people and families in their communities.
IBM, Pfizer and PricewaterhouseCoopers save lives in Peru
Working through United Way International, employees at IBM, Pfizer and PricewaterhouseCoopers helped hundreds of families in Peru’s high country survive an unprecedented winter. Thanks to generous donations of clothing from these employees, United Way of Peru distributed winter jackets, pants, socks, blankets and food to more than 800 people living in an isolated, indigenous community in Lillinta, Peru.
