I've had several teachers throughout my life, many of them expressing burning passions for their subjects and dedication to the education of students. It wasn't all the new things I learned in second grade that made my teacher so influential to my life, but her keen ability to detect a student's strengths, talents, and passions. I had entered grade school believing "O" came after "Q". This was due to the fact that my parents had mistaken my preschool "Suit-Up-For-Kindergarten!" certificate as my real kindergarten certificate. First grade would've been the biggest struggle of my life but my teacher never gave up on me and by second grade, I was teetering on the edge between a "C" and "D" average student. It was second grade, however, that I not only overcame my disadvantage, but was able to shoot above and beyond. My second grade teacher gave me the strength, spirit, and eagerness to learn. She signed me up for a program that was for exceptional students and to the surprise of my parents, I passed it. From there, she made a remark on my talent for the arts and now I turn to writing and theatre for liberation. She was the one that gave me that boost to become average and then the cheer to make me want to be more than just that. She gave me the desire to not only be present, but to be a source of greatness and change.
