Local Stories United for Literacy

United Ways of Santa Barbara County - United for Literacy (UFL) is a countywide effort to increase the number of graduating students reading at or above grade level. It is led by the United Ways of Santa Barbara County. UFL is a multi-stage strategy utilizing proven effective programs (Born Learning, Imagination Library, Reading Plus) to work toward the 10 year goal of improving the ontime graduation rates and increasing the number of students reading at grade level.

The UFL initiative is a result of National research, United Way, and local Power of Partnership (POPI) community engagement process. POPI was a two year project that included participation from over 5,300 individuals and 230 organizations. To learn more about this initiative, visit http://www.unitedforliteracy.com/.
