Saving Money on Back-to-School Supplies

Saving Money on Back-to-School Supplies

Children are better prepared to learn when they head to school with a backpack full of school supplies. When you have several school-age children, it can be tough to keep the supplies flowing throughout the school year. Don't wait until the week before classes start to get supplies. Stock up now. Here's how to save money:

Visit Dollar Stores
There's no need to pick up a notebook for the second semester of classes during your next grocery-shopping trip. Office supplies are often marked up at grocery stores. Instead, stop by a dollar store for basic supplies. For a fraction of the cost, get rulers, pencils, crayons, notebooks, calculators, and glue year-round at discount stores.

Shop Off Season
Just after children go back to school, suppliers offer a deep discount. Large retailers often overbuy on popular items, such as notebooks, folders, binders, and crayons. Let this overage be your benefit. Look for clearance prices and discounts just a few weeks after the kids head back to school.

Use Holiday Promotions
During the holiday season, use discounts and coupons to stock up on more than presents. Use bonus coupons or percentage-off sales to stock up on school supplies for the second half of the school year. For example, when a store offers a discount on as many things as you can fit into a paper sack, head to the office supply section and get to work. That's how to save money!
