Introducing the United Way NFL Player Scouting Team

United Way is proud to announce the United Way NFL Player Scouting Team, a core group of civic-minded, college-educated NFL players committed to helping United Way recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors. The effort is led by NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who is joined by Leigh Bodden of the New England Patriots; Calais Campbell of the Arizona Cardinals; Josh Cribbs of the Cleveland Browns; and George Wilson of the Buffalo Bills.

Five of the players gathered at United Way's headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia to kick-off their efforts this week. The players split into three teams, and each surprised a local teenager at risk of dropping out of school. In one case, the student had decided to drop out before the players arrived. But after a long visit, he decided to stay in school.

Each student was paired with a local mentor to provide support and guidance throughout the year. The day reaffirmed the impact a caring adult can have on the life of a child. The difference between a graduate and a dropout could be you.
