Volunteers support education during race weekend

10/26/10

In celebration of becoming the first company to surpass $1 billion in giving to United Way, UPS changed the paint scheme on the No. 6 UPS Ford to prominently feature the United Way logo for the NASCAR Bank of America 500 held at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 16. As part of race-weekend events, UPSers volunteered to advance United Way and UPS’ shared goals in education. UPSers created literacy kits with books and other materials for local schools. They also read and colored with homeless children from A Child’s Place, one of United Way of Central Carolinas' partners. UPS gave each child three hardcover books, coloring books, crayons and UPS race cars.

On race day, driver David Ragan pulled off a top 10 finish and credited it to United Way bringing him luck.
