United Way tax preparation partnership recognized for inclusion

The National Disability Institute’s (NDI) Real Economic Impact Tour named United Way Worldwide the 2010 recipient of its Outstanding Achievement Award for Improving the Economic Lives of Americans with Disabilities. Since 2005, NDI and the IRS have partnered to increase the number of taxpayers with disabilities receiving free tax preparation. Through partnerships with United Ways across the country, this number has doubled. For example, NDI is United Way’s partner in its work with Walmart to make free tax preparation more accessible. This relationship has been vital in successfully connecting individuals with disabilities to Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites.
