United Way of New York City Teams Up with Celebrities to Launch a 90-day Campaign to Combat Hunger

Tonight in New York City, 1 in 5 children will go to bed hungry. One in 6 senior citizens will be forced to get a meal from a food pantry or soup kitchen. Three million New Yorkers will wonder where their next meal will come from.

New York City is in a hunger crisis. A 40% cut in federal funding for emergency food, decreases in charitable donations, and a struggling economy threaten the ability of food pantries and soup kitchens to assist the increasing numbers of individuals and families turning to them for help. United Way of New York City is working to make sure that more than 500 food pantries and soup kitchens not only have enough food to meet this growing demand but that the food they serve is fresh and nutritious.

On August 20, with the help of Tom Colicchio and Julianne Moore, we launched What's on the Table?, a 90-day campaign to combat hunger in New York City. Now is the time to take action, and there are several ways that you can get involved.
