Thank you, Volunteers.

Thank you, Volunteers.

We sometimes find it hard to place a value on our community service volunteers, the millions of often unsung heroes who help our communities thrive. This week is National Volunteer Week and we would like to extend a huge thank you to all who have given their time to advance the common good. You have improved the lives of millions of individuals through your commitment.

You may have heard that on June 21, United Way will launch an ambitious goal to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors. There is something for everyone with the passion and commitment to get things done. And you can get going right now.

Celebrate National Volunteer Week with United Way by taking one of more of these three actions:

  • Take the pledge to become an Education Volunteer. We need to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors, so we can have a chance at reducing the staggering high school drop out rate in the America.
  • If you have already taken the pledge, spread the word and ask your friends to join you. Just post to your Facebook page, or Tweet the following: “I just pledged to join #UnitedWay and one million readers, tutors, and mentors: http://bit.ly/fEqwjo #KidsWin”
  • Stand up for volunteers and contact Congress today to ask your Representatives not to cut funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Every day, AmeriCorps, SeniorCorps, and other CNCS programs provide irreplaceable volunteers for hundreds of local United Way programs and essential services. If AmeriCorps is eliminated, 100,000 jobs will disappear along with it, as well as vital services for millions of individuals across America.

Thanks again to all who volunteer. We’re better for it as a nation, because when you reach out a hand to one, you improve the condition of all.
