Let’s Talk Health

Patrick McIntyre and Cynthia AventHi there! My name is Patrick McIntyre, and I am the director of health policy here at United Way Worldwide. That’s me, along with my colleague Cynthia Avent. It’s an honor and a privilege to work for such a worthy cause, and I hope you’ll join me in spreading the word as we advance the common good.

United Way’s goal around the issue of Health is to increase by one-third the number of youth and adults who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors by 2018. One way we plan to get there is to focus on access to quality health care, particularly for children. To that end, the David & Lucille Packard foundation generously supports United Way’s work to improve health in the United States. From private insurance, to Medicaid, to the Children’s Health Insurance Program, to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, local United Ways are engaging their communities in a variety of ways.

This is the first of many posts from me, and it is my hope that you’ll share the information I post with your networks, friends on facebook and twitter, and by any other means at your disposal. Effective advocacy is all about engaging those around you on the issues of the day.

Check back frequently for more posts on health care. In the meantime, check out the United Way Healthy Kids Pledge and make the commitment to help United Way get 1.9 million more kids healthy and active by 2018. Thank you for LIVING UNITED.
